If you are stuck for inspiration on how to spruce up your home now that summer has finally arrived, read on for some handy hints and advice. Most of the ideas are either free or fairly cheap to do, so even if you have a small budget you should be able to find a few ways to make your home feel nice and fresh this summer.
1. Move the furniture around
The old saying ‘A change is as good as a rest’ is certainly true when it comes to furniture. Making a few simple changes to where the table or the sofas are can make a huge difference, so give it a go.
2. Clear out your cupboards
You know that niggling feeling when there are things creeping up on you? Banish that feeling by emptying out all the debris and clutter that the cupboard under the stairs harbours. You’ll feel better for it!
3. Change the door knobs
Have a look at a range of brass door knobs online and choose some new ones for your home. Such a simple change can make a huge amount of difference.
4. Have a yard sale
It’s always been popular in America, so why not follow suit and make a little cash selling off unwanted items? Turn it into a project for the kids – they can make signs and sell homemade cakes alongside the main items.
5. Freshen up the walls with a lick of paint
Brightening the walls of the house will instantly make your home look and feel more spacious. Doing so will also make the house appear cleaner!
6. Have your carpets professionally cleaned
For all the hovering you do, sometimes there are stains that just won’t budge! So bite the bullet and have them properly cleaned. You’ll see the benefits straight away.
7. De-grout the bathroom tiles
This is a rather tedious job, but once you have de-grouted the tiles in your bathroom you will be amazed at how much nicer the room looks. Plus, it’s a good workout for your arms!
8. Invest in some new art work
By art work, I don’t mean Picasso paintings, simply nice paintings from a local shop or gallery. Hanging up a pretty picture or too can help to create a charming ambience in a room.
9. Polish all the wood
Wood only needs to be properly polished once a year. The rest of the time you can get away with dusting. So, grab the Pledge and get to it! The house will smell delicious and all the wood will look as good as new. Just be careful not to breathe in the fumes.
10. Buy some new garden furniture
Simple garden chairs and tables can be bought fairly cheaply at your local garden centre. So why not spruce up the garden and make it feel as though you are going on holiday every time you step outside?
By following all or some of these tips, your home should be looking fabulous in no time!
