When it comes to remodeling, people often forget about the importance of the driveway. Homeowners are quick to replace their roof and deck or even remodel their kitchen, but they often allow their driveway to sit and wither away. This should not be done. When you arrive home, or when a guest comes to visit, the first thing they see is the driveway. And, as the saying goes, you only get one chance to make a good first impression. As such, you may want to consider your driveway for your next big home improvement remodeling project. But what can you do to make your driveway both beautiful and unique? Here are five great ideas:
Make it a meadow
One of the quaintest driveway ideas is to simply make the entire area a meadow. Get rid of whatever material your driveway is made out of and fill it in with soil, then plant grass and watch it grow. You won’t kill the grass by driving on it, because your tires only cover a small, select area of the driveway. There won’t be grass where your tires go, but the grass will do well everywhere else, creating a very cute and natural driveway.
Build it out of brick
A brick driveway is one of the most stunning things you can do to your home; it’s simply beautiful. Especially if you have a winding driveway or a driveway that opens up into a larger parking space, a brick driveway can be the best way to make the entrance to your home beautiful and inviting. You can even be environmentally conscious and get left over or recycled brick from construction sites.
Paving your driveway is a remodeling job that is perfect for anyone. You can do a very simple paved driveway, which is clean, crisp, and modern, for the minimalists. Or you can pave it and top it with beautiful tile or any other form of concrete beautification. Your driveway will not only look incredible, it will also be remarkably sturdy.
Fill in the median strip
An extremely unique driveway is one with a filled-in median strip. If you pave your driveway but have a lowered median strip, you can fill it in with whatever you’d like. Most people who go this route plant flowers in the median strip, but if you want to take it a step further, you can make a small pond in the area. If your driveway is long enough, you can even put fish in the pond. Or, if your driveway is at an angle, you can turn the median strip into a fountain.
Border it with berry bushes
If you want your home to have an extra bit of privacy and seclusion, build up a fence along each side of your driveway and plant berry bushes. The berry bushes will grow along the fence, soon overtaking it and giving your driveway a very homey feeling. Plus, they will provide berries!
With these ideas, you should be able to find a great new driveway remodel that is perfect for you.
