What is hydronic?

When liquid heat transfer is used as a medium of warming up a space, this system is known as hydronic heating system. Thus, hydronic means a system wherein hot water or other liquid is circulated all through a functional space to heat it up. The fluid that is usually used in this system is water, but at times glycol or mineral oil too is used in it. A very good example of hydronic heating mechanism is the steam radiator.

In hydronic system water or glycol or mineral oil is heated in a boiler and then circulated all around a functional space through radiators, warming baseboards, etc. The water runs through a working tube system around the space. This tube usually runs below the floorings or from above the ceiling.

How should a hydronic system be installed?

There are several processes in which a hydronic heating system can be installed properly. Installation can be either ‘dry’ or ‘wet’ depending on your preferences. There are a lot of components of hydronic heating equipment and all of these should be installed properly so that the entire system can later carry on work smoothly. It is advised that one takes professional help in doing this.

One should preferably do a little research and then decide to install this system. One most ignored aspect about this hydronic system is that it too comes with certain difficulties during installation.  Issues arising out of flooring and ceiling while installing this system are often seen. Discussing this beforehand and involving the necessary professionals is always suggested. Tubing that runs from below the flooring or above the ceiling cannot be flawed as it shall cause leakage and eventually dampen the area. This certain factors are to be kept in mind while installing a hydronic heating system.

Benefits of installing a hydronic heating system

The hydronic heating system comes laden with a lot of utility factors. Some of these are being mentioned herein:

  • This heating system is very energy efficient in nature. They can not only be used as a room heating technique but also be used to meet the daily needs of hot water for domestic use. These heaters have tank less coils in them and can facilitate a huge amount of hot water to be used in domestic requirements like bathing, in the kitchen, or other purposes, conveniently. This way a need for a separate system of heating water for household need does not arise. This also saves water as the same water that is being circulated around the house for heating is being used for other things.
  • To vent the combustion gas formed while heating, this system does not require large chimneys. Rather a very small vent or operational chimney is more than enough to release the gas outside. A small vent in the sidewall too can facilitate this. A small fan can blow out the gas through the exterior wall of the house or other place.
  • The hydronic heating system runs almost silently. This means there is no or very less sound generated while the system is at work. Other systems that produce heat mostly cause an unwarranted sound that will definitely turn irritating after a while. Thus, this system also helps in bringing down noise pollution.

The hydronic heating system has been gaining steady popularity amongst the masses lately. People in Europe and North America are now abandoning their forced gas heating system to adopt the hydronic system. Its popularity should be mainly attributed to the fact that it is very energy efficient.
