Unusual Interior Design Ideas

We all get bored of our home design sometimes, whether it’s because it is looking tired and dated, or because you’re just fed up of white walls. If you want to create something unique in your home, but are stuck for ideas, then we’ve got just the thing for you! Here are some of the most unusual interior design ideas that you simply have to try.

Bright

Adding bright colours is a surefire way to spruce up the rooms in your home, without spending a fortune. You don’t need to paint all the walls in the house a bright shade to recreate this look; instead focus on some key pieces that you can adapt. Our example shows a wicker bed headboard painted in bright blue, to liven up the bedroom. You can use this interior design idea in any room of the house, depending on how much brightness you want. Try painting wooden furniture or adding bright coloured cushions to a white sofa.

Antique

This unusual idea is great for those who want something a bit more traditional, without transforming the whole house. Find one piece of antique furniture to add into the mix of contemporary or modern in your home. This example is an antique desk, complete with slate, which can be used in the living room or study. Keep the rest of your home the same style and just add a few antique pieces of furniture, here and there. The antique style creates a whole new dimension to your home and is a great talking point for guests.

Industrial

We love the industrial look in 2014, which mixes a few design trends to create something unusually spectacular. As you can see from our example, there is a lot of bare wood, metal and quirky accessories. A Chesterfield sofa is an excellent feature point for the living room, without having to completely convert to the industrial style. Have a look for accessories that complement your own interior design, such as metal lamps and giant wooden signs. If you want to take this style the whole way then wooden floorboards, neutral walls and plenty of accessories will seal the deal.

Recycled

This is by far our most unusual idea in the list and one that we cannot stop raving about. Recycled or upcycled furniture has become one of the hottest trends this year, and everyone is trying to outdo one another with ideas. Our example shows an old air vent (normally found on roofs) turned into a cupboard. You can recycle pretty much anything and turn it into a really cool piece of furniture, depending on the time and skills you have to offer. Upcycling is similar, although tends to focus more on upgrading furniture pieces you already have. Whichever one you choose, you’ll be right on trend in 2014.

Our favourite interior design ideas, although unusual, are certainly a great way to spruce up the home. You don’t have to invest solely in one of the ideas, try mixing and matching to create a unique style for each room.
